The Translation
“He who thinks that the soul is the slayer, and he who thinks that the soul is slain, both of them are ignorant. The soul neither slays nor is slain.”
Commentary & Insights
Krishna references the Katha Upanishad to correct Arjuna's belief that he is the slayer and his relatives are the slain, refuting the concept of physical death at the spiritual level.

य एनं वेत्ति हन्तारं यश्चैनं मन्यते हतम्
The Self is immutable (avikriya). It does not undergo any action. The act of killing belongs to the body and senses under the influence of Prakriti. The Self is merely the witness, and therefore cannot be the subject or object of killing.
