“All actions are performed in all cases by the modes of material nature. But the one whose mind is bewildered by egotism thinks, 'I am the doer.'”

प्रकृतेः क्रियमाणानि गुणैः कर्माणि सर्वशः
Shankara explains that the true Self is immutable and actionless. The modes of nature (senses, mind) act on their corresponding objects, but the ignorant person superimposes these actions onto the Self.
