The Translation
“Sanjaya said: Seeing Arjuna thus overwhelmed with pity, his mind depressed, and his eyes full of tears, Madhusudana (Krishna) spoke these words.”
Commentary & Insights
Chapter 2 begins by describing Arjuna's condition. He is weeping, his eyes are full of tears (aśrupūrṇākulekṣaṇam), and he is in deep despair. Seeing his friend in this state, Sri Krishna, referred to as Madhusudana (slayer of the demon Madhu), prepares to speak. This title is highly significant: it hints that Krishna is about to destroy the inner demon of delusion and self-doubt that has seized Arjuna's mind.
