Self-Reflection Prompts
- Why do you think external religious practices (like charity or rituals) are insufficient for the direct experience of the Divine? What is missing in them?
- Does this verse discourage study and charity, or does it re-contextualize them as tools that must be filled with love and surrender?

न वेदयज्ञाध्ययनैर्न दानैर्-
न च क्रियाभिर्न तपोभिरुग्रैः
No amount of outer egoistic effort can reveal the non-dual Self. When a person performs study or penance with the feeling of 'I am the doer', they strengthen their ego. The vision of the universal Self requires the dissolution of the ego, which only happens through self-surrender and non-attachment.
