Self-Reflection Prompts
- The word 'lelihyase' (licking up) evokes the image of a fire consuming forest wood, or Shiva tasting the cosmic poison. How does this describe the absolute hunger of Time which leaves nothing untouched?
- How can we remain peaceful when we realize that the physical universe is being continuously 'heated and burned' by the rays of change?

लेलिह्यसे ग्रसमानः समन्ताल्-
लोकान्समग्रान्वदनैर्ज्वलद्भिः
'Lelihyase' means licking up the blood and flesh of the dying warriors. The fierce rays represent the power of the Self (Brahman) which, at the time of cosmic dissolution, withdraws all projected names and forms into itself. The Lord is addressed as Vishnu because He is all-pervading (Vyapaka), pervading even this terrible process of destruction.
