The Translation
“Then, the valiant Bhishma, the grandsire of the Kuru dynasty, blew his conch shell, sounding like a lion's roar, to bring joy to Duryodhana's heart.”
Commentary & Insights
Bhishma, the oldest and wisest of the Kurus, senses Duryodhana's anxiety and hesitation. Acting with compassion and nobility, he blows his conch shell to raise Duryodhana's spirits and signal the start of the war, committing himself fully to his duty, despite knowing the tragic end.
