The Translation

“Desire, hatred, pleasure, pain, the physical body, mental consciousness, and fortitude—this is the field, briefly described along with its modifications.”

Commentary & Insights

Krishna completes His description of the Kshetra by adding seven psychological and biological aspects, stating that our emotions and thoughts are modifications of the field of matter.

Practical Application
1

Self-Reflection Prompts
  • If desires (icchā) and anger (dveṣa) are objects in the field, how can we observe them without feeling guilty or identifying with them?
  • Why is 'willpower' (dhṛti) listed as part of the material field? How does this change how we view self-discipline?
