Self-Reflection Prompts
- If desires (icchā) and anger (dveṣa) are objects in the field, how can we observe them without feeling guilty or identifying with them?
- Why is 'willpower' (dhṛti) listed as part of the material field? How does this change how we view self-discipline?

13.7
इच्छा द्वेषः सुखं दुःखं संघातश्चेतना धृतिः
Desire, hatred, pleasure, and pain are qualities of the mind, not of the Self (Atman). They are perceived by the Self, just as physical objects are perceived by the eye. The aggregate is the physical body. Cetanā is the mental state that reflects consciousness. All these are modifications of the field.
