Verse 13.33 : Ksetra Ksetrajna Vibhaga Yoga "The Knower and the Field"
Verse 33 of 35
“
The Translation
“Just as the all-pervading space, due to its subtlety, is never tainted by the things it contains, so the Self, though seated everywhere in the body, is never tainted.”
Commentary & Insights
Krishna uses a scientific metaphor—the nature of space—to explain how the Self remains completely untainted by the physical body it occupies.
Practical Application
1
Visualize your mind as vast, empty space today: let thoughts and worries float inside it without clinging to them, keeping your space clean and untainted.

Self-Reflection Prompts
- How does the space analogy help you understand your own mind? Can your thoughts (clouds) ever damage or change the space of your awareness (sky)?
- What does it feel like to align with the 'space-like' (ākāśa-vat) quality of your consciousness during a chaotic day?

13.33
यथा सर्वगतं सौक्ष्म्यादाकाशं नोपलिप्यते
Space is too subtle to mix with physical objects. Similarly, the Atman, being subtler than space (pure consciousness), is never touched by the qualities of the body. The mind may be filled with thoughts of anger or greed, but the Atman remains as the unattached space that witnesses these thoughts.
