Verse 13.34 : Ksetra Ksetrajna Vibhaga Yoga "The Knower and the Field"
Verse 34 of 35
“
The Translation
“Just as the single sun illuminates this entire world, so the Knower of the field (the Self) illuminates the entire field, O Bharata!”
Commentary & Insights
Krishna presents a second powerful metaphor—the Sun—to illustrate the relationship between the witnessing Self and the physical body-mind.
Practical Application
1
Identify a negative thought you are having today. Shine the light of your awareness on it neutrally, without judging, and watch it dissolve in the light.

Self-Reflection Prompts
- If your awareness is like the sun (raviḥ), how does this explain why you can observe your own thoughts? Who is the one observing the thoughts?
- How does this metaphor protect us from identifying with negative self-talk? (The sun is not the garbage it lights up).

13.34
यथा प्रकाशयत्येकः कृत्स्नं लोकमिमं रविः
There is only one sun, yet it lights up everything. Similarly, there is only one Atman (Consciousness) that lights up the entire body-mind. The body is insentient (Jada); it appears conscious only because it is illuminated by the Atman, just as a pot appears hot when heated by fire.
