The Translation
“This science was thus passed down in continuous succession, and the royal sages understood it. But, O subduer of enemies, by the long lapse of time, this Yoga was lost to this world.”

एवं परम्पराप्राप्तमिमं राजर्षयो विदुः
Shankara says that when weak-minded and undisciplined people became rulers, they lost the capacity to understand the subtle truth of the Self, and thus the tradition became broken.
