श्रीभगवानुवाच | इमं विवस्वते योगं प्रोक्तवानहमव्ययम् | विवस्वान्मनवे प्राह मनुरिक्ष्वाकवेऽब्रवीत् ||४-१||

The Translation

“The Supreme Lord said: I taught this eternal science of Yoga to Vivasvan (the Sun-god); Vivasvan taught it to Manu (the father of mankind); and Manu declared it to Ikshvaku (the founder of the solar dynasty).”

Commentary & Insights

Krishna explains the ancient lineage of the teachings of Yoga to Arjuna, showing that this wisdom is eternal and was taught by Him in the beginning of creation to Vivasvan (the Sun-god), who passed it down to Manu and Ikshvaku.
