“This is My lower nature, O mighty-armed one. But know that beyond this is My higher nature, which consists of the living entities by which this entire universe is sustained.”

अपरेयमितस्त्वन्यां प्रकृतिं विद्धि मे पराम्
The higher nature is the conscious principle (Kshetrajna) which enters the inert physical elements (Kshetra) and experiences the world. Without this consciousness, the physical universe would be blind and dark.
