The Translation

“Know that all states of being—whether in the mode of goodness, passion, or ignorance—are manifested by My energy. I am not in them, but they are in Me.”

Commentary & Insights

Krishna explains His relationship with the three modes of nature (Sattva, Rajas, Tamas), stating that although they originate from Him, He is not bound by them.

Practical Application
1

When you experience a heavy or restless mental state today, repeat: 'This Guna exists in my mind, but I, the observer, am independent of it.'

Self-Reflection Prompts
  • What does it mean for nature to be 'in God' but God not 'in nature' (Panentheism)? How does a movie exist on the screen, while the screen is independent of the movie?
  • How can we practice being like God in our daily lives—supporting our responsibilities, yet remaining independent of them?
