The Translation

“I am the goal, the sustainer, the lord, the witness, the abode, the refuge, the friend. I am the origin, the dissolution, the foundation, the storehouse, and the imperishable seed.”

Commentary & Insights

In the midst of explaining the relationship between the Divine and creation, Krishna details His multifaceted relationship with the individual soul. He lists ten intimate roles to show that the Divine is not a distant ruler but the very fabric of our existence.

Practical Application

Self-Reflection Prompts
  • The word 'suhṛt' refers to a friend who helps you without expecting any reward. How does it change your prayers to know that God is your closest, most unconditional friend?
  • If your soul has an 'imperishable seed' (*bījam avyayam*) from the Divine, how does that protect you from feeling worthless or weak?
