"The King of Secrets"
All Verses (34)
श्रीभगवानुवाच |
The Supreme Lord said: To you who are free from envy, I shall now declare this most secret wisdom combined with experiential realization, knowing which you shall be liberated from the evils of material existence.
राजविद्या राजगुह्यं पवित्रमिदमुत्तमम् |
This is the sovereign science, the sovereign secret, the supreme purifier, directly perceivable, in accord with righteousness, very easy to practice, and imperishable.
अश्रद्दधानाः पुरुषा धर्मस्यास्य परन्तप |
Those who have no faith in this righteous path, O conqueror of foes, fail to attain Me and return to the path of the mortal world of birth and death.
मया ततमिदं सर्वं जगदव्यक्तमूर्तिना |
By Me, in My unmanifest form, this entire universe is pervaded. All beings dwell in Me, but I do not dwell in them.
न च मत्स्थानि भूतानि पश्य मे योगमैश्वरम् |
And yet, beings do not dwell in Me. Behold My divine mystery! My Self, though the creator and sustainer of all beings, does not dwell in them.
यथाकाशस्थितो नित्यं वायुः सर्वत्रगो महान् |
Just as the mighty wind, blowing everywhere, always dwells in space, know that in the same manner all beings dwell in Me.
सर्वभूतानि कौन्तेय प्रकृतिं यान्ति मामिकाम् |
O son of Kunti, at the end of a cosmic age, all living beings merge into My material nature. At the beginning of the next age, I manifest them again.
प्रकृतिं स्वामवष्टभ्य विसृजामि पुनः पुनः |
Presiding over My own material nature, I manifest again and again this entire multitude of beings, who are helpless under the control of nature.
न च मां तानि कर्माणि निबध्नन्ति धनञ्जय |
And these actions do not bind Me, O Dhananjaya, as I sit neutral, unattached to these actions.
मयाध्यक्षेण प्रकृतिः सूयते सचराचरम् |
Under My supervision, material nature produces both the moving and non-moving creation. For this reason, O son of Kunti, the universe revolves.
अवजानन्ति मां मूढा मानुषीं तनुमाश्रितम् |
Fools deride Me when I descend in a human form, not knowing My supreme nature as the great Lord of all beings.
मोघाशा मोघकर्माणो मोघज्ञाना विचेतसः |
Possessing vain hopes, performing vain actions, and harboring vain knowledge, these bewildered people embrace a deluded, demoniac, and fiendish nature.
महात्मानस्तु मां पार्थ दैवीं प्रकृतिमाश्रिताः |
But the great souls, O Partha, taking refuge in My divine nature, worship Me with undivided minds, knowing Me as the imperishable source of all beings.
सततं कीर्तयन्तो मां यतन्तश्च दृढव्रताः |
Always glorifying Me, striving with firm resolve, offering homage to Me with devotion, they worship Me, constantly united with Me.
ज्ञानयज्ञेन चाप्यन्ये यजन्तो मामुपासते |
Others, sacrificing with the sacrifice of knowledge, worship Me as the One, as distinct (in various forms), and as the manifold universe facing in all directions.
अहं क्रतुरहं यज्ञः स्वधाहमहमौषधम् |
I am the Vedic ritual, I am the sacrifice, I am the ancestral offering, I am the healing herb. I am the sacred mantra, I am the clarified butter, I am the fire, and I am the act of offering.
पिताहमस्य जगतो माता धाता पितामहः |
I am the father of this world, the mother, the supporter, the grandfather. I am the object of knowledge, the purifier, the sacred syllable OM, and also the Rig, Sama, and Yajur Vedas.
गतिर्भर्ता प्रभुः साक्षी निवासः शरणं सुहृत् |
I am the goal, the sustainer, the lord, the witness, the abode, the refuge, the friend. I am the origin, the dissolution, the foundation, the storehouse, and the imperishable seed.
तपाम्यहमहं वर्षं निगृह्णाम्युत्सृजामि च |
I give heat, I withhold and send forth the rain. I am immortality and also death, existence and non-existence, O Arjuna.
त्रैविद्या मां सोमपाः पूतपापा
The knowers of the three Vedas, drinking the Soma juice and purified from sins, worship Me through sacrifices and pray for passage to heaven. Reaching the holy realm of Indra, they enjoy the divine pleasures of the gods.
ते तं भुक्त्वा स्वर्गलोकं विशालं
Having enjoyed the vast heavenly world, they return to the mortal world when their merits are exhausted. Thus, following the injunctions of the three Vedas and desiring sensory pleasures, they achieve only transient coming and going.
अनन्याश्चिन्तयन्तो मां ये जनाः पर्युपासते |
But for those who worship Me with undivided devotion, meditating on Me always, to them I carry what they lack and preserve what they have.
येऽप्यन्यदेवता भक्ता यजन्ते श्रद्धयान्विताः |
Even those devotees who worship other gods with faith, actually worship Me alone, O son of Kunti, but they do so in an irregular manner.
अहं हि सर्वयज्ञानां भोक्ता च प्रभुरेव च |
For I am the only enjoyer and lord of all sacrifices. However, they do not recognize Me in truth, and therefore they fall back into the cycle of rebirth.
यान्ति देवव्रता देवान्पितॄन्यान्ति पितृव्रताः |
The worshippers of the demigods go to the demigods; the worshippers of the ancestors go to the ancestors; the worshippers of the spirits go to the spirits; and those who worship Me come to Me.
पत्रं पुष्पं फलं तोयं यो मे भक्त्या प्रयच्छति |
Whoever offers Me with devotion a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or water—that offering, made with a pure heart, I accept.
यत्करोषि यदश्नासि यज्जुहोषि ददासि यत् |
Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever you offer in sacrifice, whatever you give in charity, and whatever austerities you perform, O son of Kunti, do that as an offering to Me.
शुभाशुभफलैरेवं मोक्ष्यसे कर्मबन्धनैः |
Thus you shall be freed from the bondage of action, yielding good and bad fruits. Established in the yoga of renunciation, liberated, you shall come to Me.
समोऽहं सर्वभूतेषु न मे द्वेष्योऽस्ति न प्रियः |
I am equal to all living beings; none is hateful to Me, nor is anyone dear. But those who worship Me with devotion are in Me, and I am also in them.
अपि चेत्सुदुराचारो भजते मामनन्यभाक् |
Even if the most sinful person worships Me with undivided devotion, he must be regarded as saintly, for he has resolved rightly.
क्षिप्रं भवति धर्मात्मा शश्वच्छान्तिं निगच्छति |
He quickly becomes righteous and attains eternal peace. O son of Kunti, declare it boldly that My devotee never perishes.
मां हि पार्थ व्यपाश्रित्य येऽपि स्युः पापयोनयः |
For those who take refuge in Me, O Partha, even if they be of sinful birth, women, vaishyas, or shudras, they all attain the supreme goal.
किं पुनर्ब्राह्मणाः पुण्या भक्ता राजर्षयस्तथा |
How much more then the holy priests, the devoted sages, and the saintly kings! Having come to this transient, joyless world, engage in devotion to Me.
मन्मना भव मद्भक्तो मद्याजी मां नमस्कुरु |
Fix your mind on Me, become My devotee, worship Me, and bow down to Me. Having thus united your soul with Me, and making Me your supreme goal, you shall surely come to Me.
