Verse 9.20 : Raja Vidya Raja Guhya Yoga "The King of Secrets"
Verse 20 of 34
“
The Translation
“The knowers of the three Vedas, drinking the Soma juice and purified from sins, worship Me through sacrifices and pray for passage to heaven. Reaching the holy realm of Indra, they enjoy the divine pleasures of the gods.”
Commentary & Insights
Krishna critiques the ancient ritualistic path (karma-kanda) of the Vedas, explaining that while performing elaborate ceremonies to reach heavenly realms (Swarga) is valid, it is ultimately a limited and temporary goal.
Practical Application
1
Reflect on your primary goal today: is it driven by extrinsic rewards (money, praise) or intrinsic values (growth, service)? Pivot one action toward the latter.

Self-Reflection Prompts
- Why is even 'heaven' (*swarga*) considered a detour rather than the final destination in the Bhagavad Gita?
- How does ritualistic religion without inner devotion lead to temporary transactions rather than permanent transformation?

त्रैविद्या मां सोमपाः पूतपापा
यज्ञैरिष्ट्वा स्वर्गतिं प्रार्थयन्ते
These seekers follow the 'Karma Kanda' (ritual section) of the Vedas. They worship the Lord indirectly through the deities. Because their hearts are filled with desire for celestial enjoyments, they attain temporary heavens, which is still a state of bondage.
