अदेशकाले यद्दानमपात्रेभ्यश्च दीयते | असत्कृतमवज्ञातं तत्तामसमुदाहृतम् ||१७-२२||
adeśakāle yaddānamapātrebhyaśca dīyate . asatkṛtamavajñātaṃ tattāmasamudāhṛtam ||17-22||

The Translation

“Charity which is given at an improper place and time, to unworthy persons, and without respect or with contempt, is declared to be in the mode of ignorance (Tamasic).”

Commentary & Insights

Krishna describes Tamasic charity. In Vedic times, giving charity to corrupt individuals or giving at improper times and places was seen as a cause of social decay, as it supported unethical behavior.
