Verse 14.6 : Gunatraya Vibhaga Yoga "Three Modes of Nature"
Verse 6 of 27
“
The Translation
“Among these, Sattva (goodness), being pure, is luminous and healthy. It binds the soul, O sinless one, through attachment to happiness and attachment to knowledge.”
Commentary & Insights
Krishna describes the first mode, Sattva (goodness/purity), explaining how its qualities of light and health can still subtly bind the soul through attachment.
Practical Application
1
Perform a good deed or share knowledge today without mentioning it or seeking credit, avoiding the subtle trap of sattvic pride (*jñāna-saṅgena*).

Self-Reflection Prompts
- Why is 'attachment to knowledge' (jñāna-saṅgaḥ) considered a binding chain? How can spiritual pride (feeling superior because you are calm or wise) block true liberation?
- How can we practice doing good acts and cultivating knowledge without getting attached to the identity of being a 'good person'?

14.6
तत्र सत्त्वं निर्मलत्वात्प्रकाशकमनामयम्
Sattva is like a crystal that reflects light. It brings joy (sukha) and wisdom (jñāna). But the Atman is beyond both pleasure and relative knowledge. By identifying with these experiences, the soul thinks 'I am happy and wise,' which is the subtle egoic bondage of the golden chain.
