The Translation

“Sometimes Sattva prevails, O Bharata, by dominating Rajas and Tamas. Sometimes Rajas prevails by dominating Sattva and Tamas. And sometimes Tamas prevails by dominating Sattva and Rajas.”

Commentary & Insights

Krishna explains the dynamic, competitive nature of the mind, showing that the three gunas are constantly wrestling for dominance over our consciousness.

Practical Application
1

When you feel a wave of anxiety (Rajas) or sluggishness (Tamas) today, consciously feed your Sattva by drinking water, breathing deeply, or reading wisdom.

Self-Reflection Prompts
  • How can you consciously 'feed' Sattva (through clean food, quiet reading, or morning meditation) to help it subdue Rajas and Tamas in your mind?
  • Why does our mood change so frequently? How does this verse help us see that our changing moods are just the gunas wrestling, not our true Self?
