The Translation

“Arjuna said: Between those devotees who, ever steadfast, worship You with love, and those who worship the Imperishable, the Unmanifest—which of these are more perfect in yoga?”

Commentary & Insights

At the beginning of Chapter 12 (Bhakti Yoga), Arjuna asks a fundamental question to clarify a perennial debate: is it better to worship the personal Divine with form and attributes (Saguṇa), or to meditate on the formless, unmanifest Absolute (Nirguṇa)?

Self-Reflection Prompts
  • Do you find yourself more naturally drawn to a personal conception of the Divine (with forms, names, and stories) or an impersonal conception (like energy, consciousness, or space)? Why?
  • Why is Arjuna's question so practical for a spiritual seeker? How does it help us clarify our own path?
