Verse 16.9 : Daivasura Sampad Vibhaga Yoga "Divine & Demonic Natures"
Verse 9 of 24
“
The Translation
“Clinging to such views, these lost souls of small intellect, commit cruel deeds and emerge as enemies of the world for its destruction.”
Commentary & Insights
Krishna traces the direct line from a nihilistic philosophy to destructive social actions. When human beings believe they are not accountable to any higher law (like karma or God), they naturally default to the law of the jungle—might makes right.
Practical Application
1
Reflect on how your consumption habits affect the environment and make one conscious adjustment to reduce waste.
2
Avoid using intimidation or manipulation to get your way in discussions; focus on collaborative solutions.

- What does it mean to be a 'lost soul' (nashtatman) in a psychological sense?

Shankara explains that they are 'naṣṭātmānaḥ' because they have lost the path to the higher Self. Their intelligence is small because it is limited only to sense objects. Their activities, like building weapons or exploitation, harm the world and lead to the degradation of human society.
